Interest rates

With effect from 1 March 2009 the official rate of interest used when calculating the tax charge on employment-related loans made on preferential terms was reduced from 6.25 per cent to 4.75 per cent. Following this change, the average official rate of interest for 2008-09 is 6.1 per cent.
