'How to Pay' changes
In the February edition of the Employer Bulletin we told you about the forthcoming changes to the bank accounts into which you make payments. These are being phased in throughout the year with the first change applying to PAYE and National Insurance contributions (NICs) deductions in respect of the 2009-10 tax year.
Your new Employer payslip booklet, or letter we send you in place of the booklet, will contain our new bank details. Please ensure you use the new account details when you start paying your PAYE and NICs deductions relating to the 2009-10 tax year.
As HMRC will now be using two banks, Royal Bank of Scotland Group for Bank Giro Credits and Citi for Direct Payments (BACS Direct Credit, Internet or Telephone banking and CHAPS) the sort code on the front of the payslip is different to the sort code used for making a Direct Payment.
We have arrangements in place to continue to receive payments made for 2008-09 deduction year using our old bank account details for the time being.
As changes are made, we will update all of our guidance about ‘Paying HMRC’ to show the new account numbers and sort codes.
What do I need to do?
From Month 1 2009-10 the action you may need to take depends on how you make payment. If you pay by:
- CHAPS, BACS Direct Credit, Internet or Telephone banking: You will need to provide your bank/building society with our new bank account number and sort code to prevent any delay in us receiving your payment. This will include updating any templates or transactions that you have stored for online banking purposes. The new bank account details are as follows:
| Account name | HMRC Cumbernauld |
|---|---|
| Sort Code | 08-32-10 |
| Account No | 12001039 |
| Account name | HMRC Shipley |
|---|---|
| Sort Code | 08-32-10 |
| Account No | 12001020 |
These details are also provided on Page 7 of the Employer payslip booklet or on the P30BC letter that we send you in place of a booklet.
- Bank Giro and Post Office
You do not need to take any action as each payslip in your P30BC booklet has our new account details pre-printed on it. - Direct Debit and Debit or Credit Card over the Internet using
BillPay
You do not need to take any action as the new account details will be updated automatically.
Payments sent by other Government Departments and Health Authorities by PayMaster are not affected by this change.
