Excise Movement and Control System (EMCS) - service availability 31 December 2011 to 2 January 2012

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) are upgrading the EMCS service and have agreed with traders that the most suitable period to do this is between 31 December 2011 and 2 January 2012.

This means that EMCS will not be available from 05.00 on Saturday 31 December 2011 until 08.00 on Tuesday 3 January 2012.

Traders who want to move any duty-suspended goods during this period have the following options:

  • create an electronic Administrative Document (eAD) up to five days in advance of the date of despatch, however the vehicle registration details of the transporter collecting the goods must be known
  • wait until the new EMCS service is available on 3 January 2012
  • use the fallback procedures if they can not wait until 3 January 2012

You can keep up to date with all HMRC Online Service availability and find further information about using the fallback procedures by following the links below.
