Excise Movement and Control System (EMCS) – get ready for January 2012 changes
On 1 January 2012 the next stage of EMCS will be launched.
What is changing?
The next stage of EMCS introduces a range of changes:
- 'alert' and 'rejection' movement messages
- interruption messages
- the facility to 'split' a movement of energy products
What you need to do now
There are a number of things you need to do now to prepare
your business for 1 January 2012:
- Make sure your software has been upgraded in readiness.
You will not be able to continue trading in duty suspended excise
goods from 1 January 2012 if your software and systems are not up
to date.
- You and any members of staff need to make sure
that you know what the changes are so that your business has a smooth
transition
to the updated system.
- Review the internal processes in your business
for handling 'alert' and 'rejection' messages and the way you notify
duty suspended
movements on EMCS, especially if you use commercial or in-house
produced software.
