EMCS online service- registration and enrolment process

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) currently offers a number of online services covering a range of taxes and benefits. This service will be extended to include the Excise Movement and Control System (EMCS).

In line with the UK delivery timeline, those excise businesses intending to use the service will need:

  • a Government Gateway account to allow access to any number of services on the HMRC portal associated with their User ID;
  • to register and enrol for the new EMCS online service from 1 February 2010

It is not necessary to create a new User ID for each service you wish to use. Therefore, if you already hold a Government Gateway User ID you do not need to 'Register' again. You may instead simply add the EMCS Service to your existing User ID.

For more information on the registration and enrolment (R and E) process, please see the R&E flowcharts (PDF 20K). If you want to view a demonstration of how to complete the registration and enrolment process online, whether you’re an individual, a business or a software developer, please use the following link See a demonstration of HMRC Online Services

More information about R and E for EMCS will be issued over the coming months.
