IRIS Laserform's SDLT e-Submissions
IRIS Laserform’s SDLT e-Submissions system is the module that allows SDLT returns to be submitted electronically to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) via the Laserform electronic forms system, LFM9.
Installation
SDLT e-Submissions consist of an SQL server database, and communications and submissions servers. A separate client application to monitor and administer the submission of SDLTs must also be installed on at least one PC.
Practices can choose to install e-Submissions with the Laserform SDLT forms only, our range of property forms, or our entire forms library.
The system also interacts with practices’ existing case management solutions.
The e-Submissions Process
The process of preparing SDLT forms for electronic submission is easy.
Users complete the relevant form as normal in LFM9 (along with any supplementaries).
Then – instead of printing – they click the e-Submission icon
on the toolbar.
At this point, validation takes place to ensure the return is acceptable for submission. The validated form is then submitted either directly to HMRC or to an in-house 'authoriser', dependent on the preferred set-up.
There are five status levels for returns within eSubmissions:-
- Agency Accepted (HMRC have accepted the return)
- Agency Rejected (HMRC have rejected the return)
- Authoriser Approved (the authoriser has approved the return and submitted it to HMRC)
- Authoriser Refused (the authoriser has refused the return and referred it to the user for further editing)
- Pending (the authoriser has yet to approve/refuse the return)
The content of submissions can be viewed at any time. Once a return has been accepted by HMRC, users can generate an SDLT5 receipt, to be printed and submitted to Land Registry, Registers of Scotland, etc.
Benefits of SDLT e-Submissions
With e-Submissions, the transmission of a completed return to HMRC is virtually instantaneous, leading to significant time savings on conveyances. Firms can eliminate weeks of correspondence and reduce delays to an absolute minimum, assisting compliance with the mandatory 30-day time limit between completion of a transaction and submission of the SDLT.
As users continue to prepare their returns using the familiar LFM9 software, they can take advantage of efficiency features including:
- Form Help (pre-supplied context-sensitive help which provides specific legal instruction on form completion)
- Customised SDLT form templates (the ability to create templates for common types of transactions)
- SDLT calculator (which calculates NPVs, tax bands, VAT & payable SDLT)
The e-Submissions system can be used by any practice from the largest law firms to sole practitioners.

Pricing
Pricing is based on annual subscription, so practices can make an unlimited number of SDLT submissions for a one-off cost.
