Managing your Users and Assistants

This page tells you how you can set up and manage other users and assistants from within your organisation so that they can use the online services you have registered for.

It can be used by employers and agents who wish to have more than one member of their organisation using:

  • PAYE Online for Employers - Internet
  • Corporation Tax Online
  • Corporation Tax Online for Agents
  • PAYE Online for Agents - Internet
  • Self Assessment Online for Agents

Why have more than One User?

Employers, agents and payroll bureaux may wish to have more than one user:

  • to allow for holidays, sickness and any other reasons for absence
  • because different people are responsible for different processes, for example one user may handle end of year returns (P35, P14s, P38A) and another may handle expenses and benefits (P11Ds, P11D(b))

Different Types of User

We are currently upgrading our systems to allow you to set up and maintain users and assistants from the Inland Revenue web site. In the meantime you can to do this at the Government Gateway central web site. The Government Gateway is the web site that provides a central registration service for many of the different government services and supports registration to the Inland Revenue Online Services.

At the ‘Manage Users’ link at the Services page, you can set these people up as 'Users'

Users can:

  • use online services that have been registered for and activated
  • register / remove services
  • assign which services other users and assistants can use
  • create and delete other users and assistants
  • change their own registration details

‘Manage your assistants’ allows you and your 'Users' to set up one or more assistants - staff who you wish to send in forms and returns for you, but who don't have rights to change registrations or add/remove users.

Assistants can:

  • use online services that they have been assigned to by a User
  • change their own registration details

Each user and assistant set up will be issued their own unique User ID.
