PAYE Online for Employers: EDI software and forms

Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) allows a secure electronic exchange of PAYE information between employers and HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC). The Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) Recognition Scheme test software products that support an EDI interface with HMRC. The products currently recognised are listed below under 'EDI enabled payroll products'. Communication Software is not included within the recognition scheme because it does not produce, upload or translate electronic versions of PAYE forms.

HMRC do not carry out any form of security testing of developer products or services and customers are encouraged to ask their suppliers for information about the security aspects of the products and services they provide. HMRC have tested the ability of the commercial products listed to file forms and returns using EDI but has not tested any of its other features. The exceptions to this are products that have also been tested for the Payroll Standard Accreditation Scheme. Column 'Payroll Standard Accredited' within the 'EDI enabled Payroll Products' list identifies Accredited products.

EDI requires data to be sent in the standard format EDIFACT. A list of EDI Translation products is provided for those that would need to translate their data from Generic Flat File (GFF) to EDIFACT or EDIFACT to GFF.

The list of Communication Providers would be of interest to anyone who would like to find out about suppliers who offer a communications link to host EDI, such as a Value Added Network or ISDN.
