Get a VAT registration number online - introduction
This section covers how to register your business for VAT and get a VAT registration number online. It doesn't cover signing up for the VAT Online service which allows you to submit VAT Returns online. You can find more information on signing up for the VAT Online service in the 'Sign up for VAT Online' section.
If you've already signed up to use other HMRC Online Services you can use the service to get a VAT registration number online to do this:
- Go to the homepage of HMRC's website www.hmrc.gov.uk and, from the 'Do it online' section on the left, follow the 'Log in' link.
- Under the heading 'Registered user' select the service you wish to use
- In the 'Existing users' section on the left, enter your User ID and password. Then select 'Login' and you'll be taken to the 'Your HMRC services' page.
- Select the 'Access service' link next to 'VAT Registration'.
