Client Appointing an Agent

Although your clients are automatically enrolled to use the VAT Online Returns service an Activation PIN is issued for the Variations service. Your client must use their Activation PIN within 28 days of the date shown on the letter. You are not allowed to use the Variations service on their behalf. The legal entity has to notify us of any changes to their Registered Business themselves.

Client appoints the agent at the Government Gateway site

They will need to:

  • login to the Government Gateway using their User ID and Password or Digital Certificate
  • where appropriate activate the service by selecting ‘Activate’ link from the ‘Services List’ screen
  • enter their Activation PIN and follow the ‘Activate service’ link
  • follow the ‘Add an Agent.’ Link from the ‘Services List’.
