In this section:

Ask HMRC for High Income Child Benefit information

If you are having problems getting information from a partner or ex-partner about their income and entitlement to receive Child Benefit payments, you can ask HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) for certain types of information. There is an online form to help you do this.

On this page:

Who can use this online form

You should only use the online form if you have not been able to talk to your partner or ex-partner about their income and entitlement to receive Child Benefit.

If this applies to you, you can only ask if you have an individual income of more than £50,000 in a tax year and you live with that partner, or you or your partner have moved in or left during that year.

If you have a tax agent or adviser, they can request this information as long as they are formally authorised to act on your behalf.

Information you need before you start

You won't be able to save any information that you type into the online form, so have the following information handy:

  • email address (either your own or tax agent or adviser)
  • your full postal address including postcode
  • your date of birth
  • your National Insurance number
  • your adjusted net income
  • your partner's/ex-partner's full name
  • your partner's/ex-partner's date of birth
  • your partner's/ex-partner's National Insurance number (if known)

This is important as it helps HMRC to confirm your identity. They have a duty of care to protect you and will not reply if they think that confidentiality may be breached.
