Registering to claim
If you’re a charity and you haven’t claimed a repayment before you need to register with HMRC Charities before you can claim tax back on Gift Aid donations or other income.
How to register
Write to or e-mail our Title Team with the following information:
- The name and full correspondence address of your charity.
- Your charity registration number, (if you’re already registered with the Charity Commission (CC) or the office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR)),
- If you aren’t required to register with the Charity commission, you also need to send a copy of your governing document, details of your charitable activities and any literature which explains the work of your charity.
- The date your accounting period ends on
What we’ll send you
Provided everything is in order we’ll confirm your HMRC registration in writing and provide you with a reference number for use on all claims and correspondence.
We’ll also send you all the forms needed for your first claim:
- Form ChN1 (PDF 83K) (nomination of Authorised Signatory/Claimant) - requesting the name and usual signature of the person you wish to authorise to make claims (claims can’t be processed without this).
- R68 claim form (PDF 212K) – on which you make your claim.
- R68 Gift Aid schedule (PDF 202K) – for a summary of Gift Aid donations.
- R68 other income schedule (PDF 176K) - for any other type of income received on which tax was already paid.
