Altering trails for your mouse pointer in Windows XP

If you have difficulties keeping track of your mouse as it moves across screen, you can adjust the size of the trails.

  1. Click 'Start' or press the 'Windows' logo key or press 'Ctrl' + 'Esc'.
  2. Click 'Control Panel' or press 'C' and press 'Enter'.
  3. Double click on ‘Printers and Other Hardware’.
  4. Double click on ‘Mouse’.
  5. 'Mouse Properties' should be displayed.
  6. Click the 'Pointer Options' tab or press 'Ctrl' + 'Tab' until it is at the front.
  7. Check 'Display pointer trails' or press 'Alt' + 'D'.
  8. To adjust the size of the trails, either drag the slider underneath 'Display pointer trails' or press 'Tab' until the slider bar is highlighted, and use the arrow keys to adjust the length.
  9. Click ‘Apply’ then 'OK' or press 'Enter'.
