We are responsible for the administration of

  • petroleum revenue tax
  • inheritance tax
  • national insurance contributions
  • stamp duties.

We are also responsible for the payment of

  • Working Tax Credit
  • Child Tax Credit
  • Child Benefit

Other services to our customers include:

Electronic Services
We have a range of electronic services for individuals, employers and agents. Sending forms, returns or even payments to us electronically, rather than on paper, makes doing business with the Inland Revenue quicker, safer, and easier than ever before.

HM Revenue & Customs Advice Teams
HM Revenue & Customs Advice Teams operate out of local tax Districts and aim to help business customers reduce the costs of meeting their obligations to us.

National Minimum Wage
We are responsible for making sure that all employers meet the National Minimum Wage rules. A helpline has been set up and dedicated enforcement teams ensure that employers meet the requirements of the legislation. The teams provide advice to employers and follow up complaints received by the helpline.

Payroll Giving
Payroll Giving is a unique way for people to give to charity. By having their donations come straight from their gross pay before tax, employees effectively increase the value of their contributions. So it means more money for charity, at less cost for them.

Tax-exempt heritage assets.
Members of the public have a right to see or visit certain privately owned tax-exempt heritage assets, including buildings, land, works of art and other objects. To assist the public we have an online database giving details of assets exempted from capital taxes and how the public can see them.

Valuation Office Agency
The is an Executive Office of the Inland Revenue and provides valuations for land and business to a variety of public and private sector customers.

The Inland Revenue in the new millennium is a more diverse, and wide ranging organisation than ever before. With this comes a commitment to constantly improve our customer service, and provide more challenging and rewarding work for our staff.
