Education zone

Our education zone gives you an insight into how various people within the organisation work, from the people known as the uniformed officers who check your bags at ports and airports, to the ‘The VAT Man’.

We do a lot more than just this; we are the UK’s frontline of defence against some of today’s most organised and dangerous criminals. It is our aim to disrupt this criminal element from smuggling prohibited goods in to this country and prosecuting those who try.

HMRC is responsible for collecting various taxes, and duties including VAT and income tax, plus we are responsible for payments of tax credits and benefits for central Government. We work closely with legitimate businesses helping them to comply with their obligations in the most effective and efficient way.

Our education zone includes 'a day in the life of…', a brief history of the departments and information on museums and other areas of interest.
