Information about Immigration Enforcement.

Immigration Enforcement (IE) is the area of the Home Office responsible for preventing abuse of the immigration system, increasing compliance with immigration law, pursuing immigration offenders and protecting the vulnerable.

IE works with partners across law enforcement, wider government, the private sector, and the voluntary sector to achieve this.

Vision

Our people are world leaders at enforcing immigration law effectively and with integrity.

Missions

  • Stop: Prevent people from entering the UK illegally, ensure compliance and disrupt the organised crime groups

  • Manage: Identify those in the UK without status, maintain contact with them and bring their cases to conclusion

  • Remove: Remove those with no right to be here, especially high-harm individuals

  • Protect: This underpinning mission recognises the vital role IE plays in protecting the UK public and economy, maintaining the integrity of the immigration system, and safeguarding vulnerable individuals

Roles and responsibilities

IE is a large and diverse operational organisation with staff based across the UK and internationally working in a wide range of different roles, including:

  • frontline enforcement officers who conduct enforcement visits to residential addresses and businesses suspected of engaging in illegal working

  • staff in reporting centres who manage face-to-face contact with illegal migrants, using meaningful conversations to explore their options on a case-by-case basis

  • caseworkers who make decisions on migrants’ cases, including foreign national offenders (FNOs), and progress their cases towards return from the UK where appropriate

  • a network of intelligence officers based overseas who work with international law enforcement partners to prevent harmful individuals from entering the UK

  • intelligence officers and criminal and financial investigators who investigate, disrupt and help to prosecute the organised crime groups (OCGs) involved in abusing the immigration system.
